While you’re probably 100% set on marrying the love of your life on the perfect date at the perfect venue, sometimes things happen that are completely unavoidable. As with many major purchases, it’s a good idea to make sure your investment is covered. Wedding insurance is a type of event insurance that specifically pertains to weddings. Coverage can vary from company to company, so be sure to thoroughly read through your options and ask questions before making a decision.
For many vendors and venues, deposits are non-refundable, especially the closer you are to your event date, no matter what your reason is for canceling. Wedding insurance can cover things like unavoidable or forced cancellations due to reasons beyond your control, extreme weather, property damage, vendor issues or no-shows, sickness or injury, military deployments, and more.
Reasons that typically aren’t covered are a change of heart or cold feet. However, policies that do offer this coverage usually have specific stipulations surrounding them, so again, read through your options thoroughly before purchasing! Engagement rings and wedding bands are also unincluded in most wedding insurance policies, but don’t worry – there are other options for those!
Many venues are beginning to require the purchase of wedding insurance, so be sure to inquire about it on your venue tours. Some venues have trusted providers they work with, while others may ask you to source your own. Even if your venue doesn’t require wedding insurance, it’s still a great idea to have it!
